چکیده
We give the rst example of systolic freedom over torsion coefcients. The phenomenon is a bit unexpected (contrary to a conjecture of Gromov’s) and more delicate than systolic freedom over the integers. Dedicated to Rob Kirby, a lover of Mathematics and other wild places. Thank you for your inspiration. AMS Classi cation 53C22

Local calibration of mass and systolic geometry
We prove the simultaneous (k, n − k)-systolic freedom, for a pair of adjacent integers k < n2 , of a simply connected n-manifold X . Our construction, related to recent results of I. Babenko, is concentrated in a neighborhood of suitable k-dimensional submanifolds of X . We employ calibration by differential forms supported in such neighborhoods, to provide lower bounds for the (n− k)-systoles....

متن کاملLaminations as systolic phase transition
We study a phase transition associated with the property of systolic freedom for families of metrics on 3-manifolds. Given a sequence of minimizing nonseparating surfaces in a systolically free sequence of metrics, we describe a certain accumulation phenomenon. The latter can be captured in the limit by a dichotomy property for the limiting minimal lamination. Such a dichotomy can thus be seen ...
متن کاملHomological Error Correcting Codes and Systolic Geometry
In my masters thesis I prove a square root bound on the distance of homological codes that come from two dimensional surfaces, as a result of the systolic inequality. I also give a detailed version of M.H. Freedman's proof that due to systolic freedom, this bound does not hold in higher dimensions.
متن کاملGeometry & Topology Monographs Hairdressing in Groups: a Survey of Combings and Formal Languages
A group is combable if it can be represented by a language of words satisfying a fellow traveller property; an automatic group has a synchronous combing which is a regular language. This article surveys results for combable groups, in particular in the case where the combing is a formal language.
